Ways to enhance our Commitment to God

Compassion is a word we often use, but do we really know the meaning of this wonderful term?

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Matthew 9:36

Authentic Compassion is, in addition to an identification with the pain of others, a concrete action to help.

It is a motivation prompted by The Lord to act in accordance with His Perfect designs.

God teaches us through His Word and Wisdom, the importance of cultivating Kindness and Mercy to Bless us with the promise that His character as an Eternal Compassionate Father never wanes, constantly renewing Himself.

It may happen that we have the false impression that we do not possess or do not find within us that Spirit of Compassion which The Lord urges us to have.

If Christ is in our lives, we can take it for granted that we do have it. We just have to activate it and put it into practice.

His Healing Word must flow through us to touch the hearts of our brothers and sisters, helping the hungry and restoring Peace in their lives.

“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.” James 5:14

There are many ways to help those who need it most. For that, we must be determined and resolute.

If a brother is going through the hard mishap of an illness, we can bring him the Word of Christ. Dialogue, empathy, and connection with the other is fundamental.

For that reason, an effective action to calm the anguish of the helpless is to Pray with and for him.

The power of prayer restores calm and expels the harmful thoughts that can appear in moments of this nature.

To sustain ourselves and acquire the necessary strength to face these kinds of challenges, we only need to think of all the storms we have overcome by the hand of The Lord.

He has never left us to our own devices. Let us follow Jesus' example and take the first step.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27

In this verse, James explains that true religiosity is moved by those in need, portrayed in the text as "orphans and widows".

It is likely that questions arise within us such as: How can I serve my suffering brothers and sisters, how do I bring God's peace to their hearts?

We must be deeply Engaged and meditate on The Lord's Compassion, stimulating the desire to see others freed from their torments.

When we can transmit to the fallen brother in misfortune the Spiritual nourishment that will keep him with Confidence and Faith to face his burdens, we know that the Highest is using us as tools to reflect that Compassion translated into His Love for all His children.

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” 1 John 3:16

It is very important to distinguish that true Love is not only about receiving, but essentially about giving without selfishness or prejudice.

Undoubtedly we all have a family member, a friend, or a neighbor who may be in need of the Word of the Lord to come into his life.

Let us take that wonderful initiative and act now on behalf of His Glory.
