The Healing Source

The Lord has sufficient power to save and restore anyone. He frees people from every addiction, breaks every prison, removes every burden, and gives perpetual freedom.

“On this mountain, he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The Lord has spoken. In that day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”Isaiah25:7-9

This story can inspire us much more now. Let me tell you about a young man I saw every morning on my way to work. Very early in the morning, when the day was just breaking and I was taking the subway, I would come across this young man, who I would often find sleeping on the platform, or sitting down drinking alcohol and cursing all the people who, like me, were about to start our workday.

"Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful." Hebrews 10:23

One particular day an unforeseen event arose, which caused me to be delayed and, as a result, made me miss my train. The platform was empty except for my presence and that of the young man in question. I was about to sit down on the bench next to which the young man was sleeping when, as I passed him, the young man unexpectedly began to insult me. Between my nervousness and his increasingly loud insults, I accidentally dropped what I was carrying under my arm: my agenda, the purse with the money I had on me, and a small copy of the Bible that I carry everywhere I go.

The young man, upon seeing what happened, bent down, gathered the bag with the money, and was about to run away. Seeing that situation, I instinctively said, "Wait, you are forgetting the most important thing." And I handed him The Bible. The young man was perplexed, motionless, he didn't know what to do or if I had gone crazy.

Then I told him: "You can keep all the money and the other things too, I only ask that we talk about this book for just five minutes.”

“and He will guide you to His perfect will. From this day forward you must seek God in a daily manner and make Him your sustenance. Speak to Him as a son to his father and He will answer you.” Galatians 3:27

With the look of distrust worn by someone who has been disappointed by life more than once, the young man approached me fearfully and sat down on the bench next to me.

I told him not to be afraid, that nothing he was taking was of much importance to me. That got his attention, to which I replied that that's what I work for: to make money and be able to live, that he could do it some other time, but what I had to tell him was even more important, and the message was that God loved him.

“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate[a] the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

The young man began to cry and embrace me, he told me that when he was a child he was on God's path, but for various reasons, he had moved away and felt that, as he was, no one would receive him in the house of the Lord. That same day I took the young man to my house and for a week he lived with us as another son, until he got a job and a house to live in. Today I continue to cross the young man on my way to work, or rather, to our work.
